Mrs. Mason began her nursing career in 1980, earning her B.S.N. from Niagara University's College of Nursing. She began her career as a staff nurse in the Coronary Care Unit at Overlook Hospital, which led to a position of Charge Nurse in the Emergency Department. She had the opportunity to work in varied settings during the early part of her nursing career, including private surgical practice, free-standing emergency center, and corporate nursing at AT&T. While raising her family, Mrs. Mason continued to work in Emergency Departments at Overlook, Somerset Medical Center and Hunterdon Medical Center.
As her children entered school here at the previously K-8 Union Township School, Mrs. Mason became very involved as a parent volunteer. It was during this time that she realized that she really enjoyed the school setting, and loved working with children. School nursing was a perfect way to blend the two careers, and after completing her School Nurse Certificate at the College of New Jersey in 1998, she took over the position of Certified School Nurse at Union Township School. Following the completion of the new Elementary School, Mrs Mason stayed on as the nurse in the Middle School. Her school nurse role also includes serving as the Middle School Section 504 Coordinator as well as a member of the UTMS HIB team.
Mrs. Mason and her family have lived in Union Township for 38 years. Her two children are grown and married, and have fond memories of their time here in Union Township.
In her spare time, Mrs. Mason loves to travel with her friends and family, especially to any place with a beach and a palm tree!
