Leadership Changes for Union Township School District

Union Township School District (Hunterdon County) announces the appointment of two new principals and a shift in responsibilities for Superintendent Nicholas Diaz. The New Jersey Department of Education recently approved a plan submitted by Union Township Schools and Franklin Township School District which proposes a shared superintendent pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:17-24.1. The plan outlined cost savings and operational efficiencies for both districts. Diaz was hired in July 2017 for the dual role of superintendent and principal of Union Township Elementary School. The shared superintendency goes into effect on July 1, 2019.

Mrs. Rhonda Pevorus of Bath, Pennsylvania will become principal of Union Township Elementary School on July 1. She has been an educator for 19 years. Fourteen of those years were spent in Union Township as a technology instructor and classroom teacher. During her tenure at Union Township, Mrs. Pevorus served on various committees, provided professional development to staff, wrote curriculum, acted as a mentor, and implemented schoolwide spirit activities. In her spare time, Mrs. Pevorus coaches her children in various sports and practices the martial art of Tang Soo Do.

Effective July 1, Mr. Andrew Carfley of Clinton Township will become the principal of Union Township Middle School.  Most recently, he was vice principal at Clinton Township Middle School. Mr. Carfley has 13 years of teaching experience in special education and health and physical education at the middle school and high school levels. Mr. Carfley also volunteers his time as a youth sports coach in Clinton Township.

“Under the leadership of Ms. Pevorus and Mr. Carfley, our school community will continue to thrive. Both principals are passionate educators who are committed to student achievement,” said Mr. Nicholas Diaz, superintendent of Union Township Schools.
